Social Entrepreneurship in Action
Social entrepreneurship is not only an effective way to create valuable services for the community; it’s also a great way to relieve both the tax base and foundations from contributions of (often precious) resources. Social entrepreneurship often provides economic and community opportunities in ways that are both effective and sustainable long term.
The best way to support and encourage this movement at a local level is to push and support initiatives that seek to cultivate these opportunities - so that Milwaukeeans continue joining and reinforcing collective efforts toward regional economic, social and environmental improvement.
Innovation, Inspiration and Impact in Milwaukee
Last month, Milwaukee saw the introduction of an exciting new initiative, sure to serve as a platform for social entrepreneurship ventures in our region. Innovation in Milwaukee (MiKE), spearheaded by the Greater Milwaukee Committee (GMC), is a design, technology and innovation cluster.
“The cluster will focus on three strategic goals:
- Develop talent for Innovation;
- Enhance economic development opportunities for existing companies and start-ups; and
- Develop future technologies and applications.” –from BizTimes
By aligning Milwaukee’s assets in both manufacturing and innovation, MiKE seeks to develop local talent through a variety of partnerships and programs – and then retain that talent powerhouse to apply our local talent and local innovations in the global market. So we’re looking at huge opportunities for youth, organizations and the entire Milwaukee region.
Supporting and becoming a part of this initiative is likely to be very important in the near future, especially as this venture continues to grow and positively influence Milwaukee, long term. Additionally, some really exciting developments are in the works with efforts by a variety of dedicated Milwaukee professionals to move us closer to having a strong community of social entrepreneuers. Stay tuned!
