SmartWave was recently invited to tour a new data center in Milwaukee by Ian Favill, the VP of Business Development at New Age Data Center Solutions (newagedcs.com). Located between 33rd and 34th Street on Highland Avenue, New Age Data Center Solutions does not look like a typical data center at all. Rather, inside the office building in the Concordia neighborhood of Milwaukee are technology systems designed to enhance an organization’s capacity to scale fast and grow systems quickly.
As with other data centers, the New Age DCS demonstrates that the three most important aspects of a data center are access to reliable, clean power, access to a variety of internet service providers, and security.
At first glance, it’s evident that quite a bit of thought was put into developing the power systems at New Age DCS. The facility has an impressive triple redundant power setup – meaning that there is considerable power coming into the building in addition to both a battery backup and a large scale generator with the ability to run the facility at full power for a long period of time.
New Age Data Center Solutions also shows why geographically speaking, Milwaukee is an ideal location for technology. The data center benefits from a location approximately 500 feet above a flood plain and a considerable distance from large bodies of water, and the freeway. A sizable amount of fiber optic cabling in the area is also readily available. Staffed by security, cameras are positioned at multiple points around the campus and inside the building to monitor activity and ensure security.
The Management and Staff of SmartWave enjoyed our personal tour of New Age DCS tremendously.
Thanks to New Age, Milwaukee now has an enterprise class data center here in Milwaukee that is built for performance. It will be exciting to see how New Age DCS competes with other vendors in the area, creating additional technological opportunities for businesses in the city!
